A native of Nashville, Tennessee, the son of an Art Professor at George Peabody College, Gerrit Frase spent his youth pursuing many creative endeavors from building forts and tree houses to model making, drawing, ceramics, and photography. Gerrit’s grandparents lived in southern Wisconsin a few miles from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin. Visiting Wright’s homestead was a summertime occurrence in his youth raising his awareness of creativity inherent in the art of architecture.
Gerrit Frase earned a Master of Architecture at the University of Illinois, Chicago and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. As a young practitioner, he spent ten years in internship and architecture positions at noted Boston architectural firms including Ellenzweig Associates, Cannon Design-Boston, Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson, and Abbott building a well rounded architectural resume of experience and training.
Prior to launching GF Architecture in 2012, he worked for 14 years with Hutker Architects, one of the most highly-regarded custom residential architecture firms in New England. While there, Gerrit rose to the level of Associate. He enjoyed a leadership role in project design, staff management and project management, as well as collaborating in the development of the sustainability direction for the office.
A Massachusetts-registered architect since 1990, Gerrit Frase prides himself on the ability to bring the wide range of skills and experience to the visioning and communication of architectural solutions.
Gerrit lives with his wife and son in Falmouth, and if he’s not in the office or spending time with his family, he’s enjoys the challenge of saltwater fly fishing.
