Schematic Design

A place of discovery for client & architect

Initial synthesis of all gathered information

While not the first time pen or pencil is put to paper during the project, the schematic design phase is the first time the synthesis of all the previously gathered information, from client needs analysis and space programming, is conceptualized.

What do I get in a Schematic Design?

Schematic design is the rendering of goals, wishes, aspirations into spaces, images, relationships, and priorities while the space is given an aesthetic.  Schematic design places a structure on the property if only in a sketch proposal to gain new understanding of the goals and information noted here and in previous phases, such as client needs analysis and space programming.  It is a place of discovery both for the client and the architect.

What to Expect After the Schematic Design Phase

The next phase of the design process will involve design development, where we build upon the initial development of the schematic design. It’s best described as a level of refinement with dimensions dialed in, and additional specificity to the rendered design.
